Review of Local Byways Potentially Allowing Motorised Vehicles Access

Please be advised that there is currently a review that could end up allowing offroad jeeps and motorbikes to use the byways in Great Munden and the surrounding areas, in particular the ‘Roman Road’ running from Cromer to Nasty – see links below.

Off-roaders (vehicles and motorbikes would turn the byway into a dangerous and noisy mudbath.

Great Munden parish council has objected but if you wish to object please see links below by which to do so.

Have Your Say – Hertfordshire Healthwatch Bulletin

Healthwatch Hertfordshire is Hertfordshire’s statutory and independent health and social care champion. We hold health and social care providers to account, and amplify the voice of patients and residents, including those who are seldom heard or feel ignored.

Right now, the healthcare system is under unprecedent strain, and targeted decisions are being made to improve services. That means that Healthwatch Hertfordshire’s role is more important than ever. So, we need your help to reach communities. This will ensure that as many people are heard as possible, and support change today.

Connect with us

If you are not already, you can sign up to our regular newsletter here, and follow us on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook or LinkedIn. This will help you stay up to date on our policies and activities. We would be grateful if you could share our details with those you represent.

Help us support Marie Curie’s research into End of Life Care

Right now, we are working with Marie Curie and the NHS to address issues in End of Life care. We are conducting a survey and hosting one-to-one interviews and focus groups to understand the experiences of people in the East of England.

We are pleased to support this work and would encourage you to either/or complete the survey yourself or share the survey across your networks.

The survey can be accessed here: Survey: Experiences of Palliative and End of Life Care in the East of England. A signup form for interviews and online focus groups can be found here: Interviews and Focus Groups Online Form. We have also attached some flyers, which we would be grateful if you shared across your networks.

Thriving Together

East Herts Council has launched ‘Thriving Together’, a draft plan for how it will work with residents and community groups to tackle critical issues such as isolation and loneliness, and help people feel better connected and able to enjoy activities that boost their health and wellbeing.

Many people live busy lives juggling multiple responsibilities or face other challenges when it comes to keeping active or spending time with others. The council is keen to hear what wellbeing means to its residents, and what they want to see as part of a local action plan.

Please access the survey consultation pages here to find the Communications toolkit which can be used to connect with and hear from community groups, partners and organisations you may know or have links with.

The toolkit has:

  • a survey poster
  • a community newsletter template
  • suggested media post templates
  • tips about how to engage with the communities and residents in East Herts
  • a survey link to encourage residents, partners and community groups to provide feedback and share their thoughts online.

Alternatively, people can call 01992 531471 or visit drop-in events at libraries across the district, providing an opportunity for in-person discussions and feedback. The sessions take place throughout October and November with times and locations listed on the council’s website.

We have had a good response so far, however we know that as Town and Parish Councils you are well placed to be the local face of contact with the residents you support and represent. If you can help, please in promoting the consultation phase as widely as possible from now until Sunday 12thNovember 12pm so a high level of engagement can be achieved I would be most grateful.

Help Keep Our Parish Tidy

With the cessation of our litter picking grant, we are asking for volunteers to help keep our Parish tidy from litter blown across the fields or thrown from passing vehicles.

We should be grateful to anyone who picks up litter whilst walking in the Parish, or alternatively if you would like to register with East Herts and receive a hoop and bags in which to place litter, these can then be put alongside your general waste (black bin) for collection.

Please register at:

https://www.eastherts.gov.uk/bins-waste-recycling/street-cleaning-and-litter/community-litter-picking-form

Volunteers may also “Adopt an Area” and be responsible for their chosen site.  To adopt an area please contact:

FOC Services from The Dogs Trust

Your local Dogs Trust branch at Harefield would like to briefly make you aware of a few services that we provide free of charge:

The first, our Canine Care Card scheme, is a free service for dog-owners whereby, in the event of their death or illness, we will look after their dog, providing them with all the care they need until we can find a responsible, loving new home for them. This is often a great concern to the elderly, as their dog may be their only friend and companion – Dogs Trust can give them peace of mind, knowing that their canine companions future is safe, should the worst happen to them. Every year, we care for more than 14,000 dogs at our nationwide network of rehoming centres and we never put down a healthy dog.

If anyone has any further queries, please contact email  or phone 01895 453 951.“
